TENESHIA'S VISION INTO ACTION

As Clerk, Teneshia has brought her 2020 vision into action. She has diligently worked to make the clerk's office more modern, transparent, efficient, and safe.

MODERNIZATION

  • Launched online system that enables the public to purchase certified copies of birth certificates
  • Installed eight court display monitors, four in the Probate Courts and four in the Civil Courts
  • Digitized all records archived on microfilm including 1.2 million marriage licenses

TRANSPARENCY

  • Installed public information monitors in Personal Records, Civil and Probate Departments
  • Improved website and technology
  • Created and launched new social media accounts on all platforms to enhance distribution of information
  • Enhanced hiring process to include posting job openings on social media to expand reach
  • Launched first ever public newsletter to enhance internal and external dissemination of information

SAFETY

  • Implemented steps to ensure County Clerk services are carried out in a manner that emphasize the safety and health of the public and staff
  • Updated the office’s emergency management plan to enhance safety and readiness in case of a disaster

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

  • Partnered with UH Hobby School of Public Affairs to provide young people constructive work experience via summer internship program
  • Held second annual toy drive benefitting abused kids and their families at the Children’s Assessment Center
  • Continued to be actively involved in community service projects throughout the county

EFFICIENCY

  • Rapidly reinstated in-person services when COVID-19 threat level was reduced
  • Successfully conducted pilot program offering extended hours to issue birth certificates (Back to School Birth Certificate Program)
  • Initiated data and fact sharing to enhance awareness of the important role a County Clerk plays in the life of the populace
  • Restructured the office floor plan to improve traffic flow and improve work environment
  • Initiated constructive relationship building and promotion of the Harris County Clerk’s Office by taking on roles like Membership Chair for the Women Professionals in Government and as Secretary for the Executive Board of the International Association of Government Officials

  • Successfully transitioned the County Clerk’s Office out of election management and currently serves on the Election Commission
